Street sweeping rules change during major holidays in San Francisco.
Parking in San Francisco can be tricky. If you park on Ottawa Avenue, you must move your car on Thursday and Tuesday before the sweeper arrives. SFMTA parking officers are very strict. Even if the street sweeper has already passed, you cannot park there until the restricted time (usually ending around 9) is completely over.
A street sweeping ticket in San Francisco is very expensive, usually costing over $90. To avoid this, always check the red and white signs on Ottawa Avenue. If you are parking overnight, set an alarm on your phone so you remember to move your car early in the morning.
San Francisco is famous for its steep hills. If Ottawa Avenue has a slope, you must 'curb your wheels' (turn your tires toward the sidewalk). If you forget to do this, SFMTA can give you a separate ticket, even if you followed the street cleaning schedule.
A.Based on city data, street cleaning usually happens on Thursday and Tuesday. Always look at the closest parking sign to confirm the exact hours.
A.No. In San Francisco, it is illegal to park until the posted time window ends. You can still get a ticket if you park early.
A.Currently, a standard street cleaning ticket from SFMTA is around $90, though late fees will make it much higher.
