San Francisco Department of Public Works (DPW) cleans Van Ness Avenue regularly to keep the city free of trash. Make sure your vehicle is not parked here during the restricted hours on HOLIDAY and Friday. Enforcement usually starts strictly around 4. Finding a new parking spot can take 15-20 minutes, so plan ahead.
A $90 sweeping ticket is bad, but getting your car towed is much worse. Many streets connected to Van Ness Avenue become 'tow-away zones' during morning and evening commute hours. Always read the whole parking sign. If the sign says 'Tow-Away', your car will be removed immediately.
Sometimes parking signs on Van Ness Avenue get painted over or go missing. You are still responsible for knowing the sweeping schedule. You can call 311 to report broken signs.
